On Wednesday March 8th, for the first time on the DGPT teaching tour, Uplay decided to revisit a location that we had taught at before. When the YMCA of Waco reported that they were not continuing to teach disc golf due to the fact that previous employees that learned and experienced last year's teaching event no longer worked there, Uplay knew that we had an opportunity to help AND also better equip the YMCA for the future!
Our program director, Ella Hansen, was joined by Pro Ambassadors Missy Gannon, Luke Humphries, Cythia Riciotti, and media collection staff Angie Smith. The team was able to teach 124 kids between the ages 6 - 15 years old in two different sessions. It was the first day of disc golf for many of the kids and all of the staff, and the biggest difference this year was that Uplay was able to mail the YMCA a copy of our "Uplay Disc Golf Basics" teaching guide so that their staff will always have a resource and way to offer disc golf in the future.
It was a great day for all involved and the biggest moment of pride for our organization is that this would be the first of many successful Community Connect programs that Ella and Angie would operate and lead without our regular operations manager Dustin Keegan, or E.D. Zoe AnDyke.
This is a sure sign that Uplay is growing and expanding, while Zoe and Dustin were across the world in the Netherlands teaching disc golf at the same time!
Thank you to our Community Connect Partners for your continued support of these successful teaching events: Disc Golf Pro Tour, Professional Disc Golf Association, UDisc, Discmania, Trash Panda Disc Golf, and Disc Dot USA!
We were able to give 130 discs to students thanks to UDisc, 130 minis thanks to Trash Panda Disc Golf, 30 Starter Packs and 2 baskets donated to the school by Discmania!
