In the heart of Africa, disc golf is making strides, thanks to the passionate efforts of the Uplay team. Comprising dedicated individuals from various backgrounds, Uplay recently embarked on a transformative journey to Uganda and Kenya, building on the foundation laid by the Paul McBeth Foundation (PMF) in 2022.
Meet the Uplay Team & Country Contacts:
The Uplay team, led by founder and executive director Zoe AnDyke, boasts a diverse group of individuals committed to spreading the joy of disc golf. From operations managers to professional disc golfers and ambassadors, each member plays a vital role in realizing Uplay's mission. Country contacts in Uganda and Kenya further ensure that the impact is not just temporary but sustained, with local connections fostering long-term growth.
Project Overview:
The main focus of Uplay's journey was to expand on the groundwork laid by the PMF in 2022, which saw the installation of the first disc golf courses in Uganda and Kenya. The primary objectives included teaching disc golf to local communities, establishing local coaches, and cultivating enthusiasm for the sport. Additionally, Uplay aimed to host PDGA-sanctioned tournaments in both Uganda and Kenya, marking a significant step towards integrating these regions into the global disc golf community.
Sponsors:
Uplay's success wouldn't be possible without the generous support of sponsors who share their vision. The Professional Disc Golf Association, Infinite Discs, Trash Panda Disc Golf, Paul McBeth Foundation, Calgary Disc Golf Club, UDisc, Upper Park Disc Golf, and Grip Equipment have all played a pivotal role in making this ambitious project a reality.
Conclusion:
As the Uplay team departed from Nairobi, Kenya, the impact of their journey resonated not just in the discs thrown but in the smiles, enthusiasm, and newfound community spirit. Disc golf is more than a sport; it's a vehicle for connection, growth, and empowerment.
The journey doesn't end with the return flight; it marks the beginning of a legacy. The seeds planted in Uganda, Kenya, and Zimbabwe are set to blossom, with local coaches and communities taking ownership of the sport. Uplay's story is a testament to the transformative power of passion, collaboration, and a shared love for disc golf.
In the vast landscapes of Africa, where disc golf was once a distant dream, Uplay has carved a path for a vibrant, disc-flinging future.
