Ledgestone Open | Community Connect 2023
After a couple of weeks off of teaching events, while the tour was in Europe, Uplay was more than ready to get back into action with our community connect events. This time at the Ledgestone Open in the Greater Peoria, Illinois area.
Our team always looks forward to the positive impact and energy created among the children, staff, and families we work with. On Tuesday, August 1st, the Uplay team was co-directed by myself, Zoe AnDyke and Ella Hansen, and we were joined by Pro Ambassadors: Missy Gannon, Tom Szevin, Conner O'Reilly, and Ali Smith. We taught 78 kids ages K-6th grade, plus 18 additional summer camp counselors between the ages of 16-24 years old, at the Camp of Champions, hosted at the Grace Church in Morton, Ill.
Up to this point in the 2023 season, our beloved community connect programs have provided the following resources and equipment to the recipients at each of the 11 locations:
*Uplay Disc Golf Basics Curriculum Books: 27
*Discmania Active Target Baskets: 20
*Discmania starter pack discs to schools/youth organizations: 900
*Putters given to participants, powered by Udisc: 2,234
*Trash Panda minis: 1,334
In early springtime, camp Program Director Stephen Hillrich, reached out to inquire about Uplay teaching at one of the nine summer camps that they offer to kids throughout the summer. Each year their series of camps host over a thousand local youth, teaching them about life skills and healthy outdoor initiatives. We knew that our program was the perfect fit, and by donating the Uplay Disc Golf Basics curriculum book plus all of the necessary equipment, that disc golf would continue to be taught throughout all of the camp times and locations, for many years to come.
