Community Connect 22: Texas States
Uplay is proud to write about another successful Community Connect event for the 2022 Disc Golf Pro Tour Season, now in Tyler, Texas for the Texas State Championships!
We chose Tyler Classical Academy (K-12th) school, located 10 miles from Lindsay Park. Jeremy Brandt, Dean of Instruction (Assistant Principal), reached out to me in early January with hopes to reserve the CC spot for the third event of the season. Shortly after the meeting, we scheduled the K-12 school. Tyler Classical Academy, a charter school with a mission to provide a tuition-free classical education, was a great fit for our community connect program and is the largest age range of youth taught disc golf at a single elite series tour event.
Joining Zoe Andyke and Dustin Keegan, were Uplay Pro Ambassadors Missy Gannon, Ella Hansen, Cynthia Ricciotti, Cole Redalen, and Thomas Gilbert. As a group, we were able to teach 5 staff members and 521 Kindergarten through 10th-grade children how to play disc golf! This brings our total tally for 2022, to 1,182 students taught, and of that total, 945 kids opted to take a disc home to continue playing. Our total number of teachers and staff members taught through 3 events is 19.
One of Uplay's favorite memories forever comes out of the aftermath of this event. On Wednesday afternoon, March 23rd, Pro coach Ella Hansen was at a nearby course to film her "In The Bag" and while approaching the practice green noticed an incredible disc golf lesson in progress. A young man that attends Tyler Classical Academy was teaching his mother how to putt with his "Uplay x UDisc" putter. What a joy to know that the students are inspired to complete their "Fun-work," when Uplay prescribes homework to teach a family member or loved one what they have learned!!
